🎨 What Are Segments in WLED?

Segments allow you to partition your LED strip into distinct sections, each capable of displaying different colors, effects, and brightness levels. This feature is ideal for creating dynamic lighting setups, such as synchronizing underglow with interior lighting or designing symmetrical patterns.

πŸ› οΈ How to Create and Manage Segments

1. Access the Segments Menu

  • Open the WLED application.

  • Click the "Segments" at the bottom of the application.

2. Add a New Segment

  • Click "+ Add Segment".

  • Specify the Start and Stop LED indices to define the segment's range.

    • Note: The Stop LED is exclusive; for example, a segment from 0 to 30 includes LEDs 0 through 29.

  • Adjust settings like Grouping, Spacing, and Reverse Direction as desired.

  • Click the checkmark to save the segment.

3. Apply Effects to Segments

  • Select the segment by checking its box.

  • Choose your desired effect, color, and brightness settings.

  • Repeat for other segments to customize each section independently.

πŸ”§ Advanced Segment Settings

Grouping and Spacing

  • Grouping: Determines how many LEDs are treated as a single unit. For example, a grouping of 2 means effects apply to pairs of LEDs.

  • Spacing: Sets the number of unlit LEDs between lit groups, creating patterns with gaps.

Offset

The Offset setting shifts the starting point of effects within a segment. For instance, an offset of 5 begins the effect at the 6th LED in the segment.

πŸ’Ύ Saving Segment Configurations

To preserve your segment setups:

  • Navigate to the Presets tab.

  • Click "+ Add Preset".

  • Name your preset and ensure "Save segment bounds" is checked.

  • Click "Save".

Note: Only Preset 16 and above save settings for Segments 1–10 by default.
